| Nicholas J. Boyle handles a wide variety of trial and appellate litigation, with an emphasis on complex civil cases. He has represented individual, corporate and governmental clients involved in high profile litigation in numerous jurisdictions. In the landmark Microsoft antitrust case, Boyle represented the nine non-settling plaintiff States. He represents major motion picture studios in the MGM v. Grokster case against the providers of peer-to-peer file-sharing services, including Kazaa, Grokster and Morpheus. In 2006, he represented Hall of Fame Coach Larry Brown in his successfully resolved contract dispute with The New York Knicks.
Boyle's experience also includes:
- Successfully defending a major motion picture studio against a class action suit alleging unfair business practices.
- Defending the owner of a generic pharmaceutical manufacturer in a successfully resolved criminal case involving FDA felony charges.
- Successfully defending a national telecommunications company in a breach of contract action seeking $200 million. After two defendants' motions for sanctions were granted, plaintiffs paid defendants to resolve the case.
- Defending an international energy company in a successfully resolved complex civil litigation involving allegations of fraud and breaches of the securities laws in connection with the sale of a power plant.
- Securing the dismissal of a breach of contract action against a global bank involving a $100 million mortgage portfolio.
- Successfully defending the major motion picture studios against a lawsuit alleging antitrust and racketeering violations.
- Defending an indigent individual facing aggravated assault charges in a successfully resolved criminal case.
- Representing an impecunious plaintiff in an NASD arbitration against a Wall Street bank, obtaining a payment thirty three times the size of the bank's initial settlement offer.
Boyle is an Adjunct Professor of Law, teaching Antitrust Law, at Georgetown University Law Center. He has also lectured in Civil Liberties and Constitutional Law at the University of London.
Boyle serves on the Board of Directors of the Council for Court Excellence and takes part in the firm's pro bono activities, including the Landlord-Tenant Resource Center program at D.C. Superior Court.
