We hire extraordinarily talented lawyers who want to practice law at the highest and most challenging levels, while still enjoying professional and personal lives outside the firm. Once they join us, our goal is to help them succeed, and we therefore emphasize training and enhancing the knowledge base of all of our lawyers.
During their first year at the firm, new associates are invited to a series of orientation sessions and Continuing Legal Education ("CLE") seminars, which are designed to introduce them to the firm, and to provide training on fundamental aspects of the firm's practice.
On a regular basis, the firm also holds other in-house professional development and CLE seminars that are open to all of our attorneys. These seminars are usually conducted by lawyers at the firm, and cover topics such as preparing for, conducting, and defending depositions; examining and cross-examining witnesses; motions practice in state and federal courts; and trial practice skills. On occasion, outside speakers are also invited to teach training programs. A calendar of all professional development and CLE programs is provided on the firm's intranet.
The firm's experience, however, is that the best learning comes from doing. The firm encourages and expects associates to take substantial responsibility early in their careers. It is anticipated that associates will take or defend depositions or make arguments in court within the first 12-18 months.
